When someone asks me how did Ginger Lily start, this is what I tell them...
I've done a few things over the years, working in a family wholesale gift buisness, been a sales reprensentative for a ribbon importer, worked in a customer service call centre and supervised a small purchasing team for a larger company, but my ture love is for all things paper.
Ginger Lily originated from my love of scrapbooking and all thing paper and when I got engaged and stated looking at wedding invitations I soon realised that I wanted to make my own. At the time there was not much around in the way of do-it-yourself kits and do-it-yourself was not as popular as it is now. I tried out a few designs till I picked one that suited us, ordered my cards and paper and waited for it all to arrive.
I did my own printing on a basic ink jet printer, assembeld them with the help of my bridesmaid and sent them out. I also did our place cards, a sign for our wishing well, covered matchboxes in matching paper for the guests candles on the reception tables, tied matching ribbon on napkins and our thank you cards. We also did the decorating of the surf club, the chair covers and sashes, table decorations, and basic flowers around the room. There was a lot to do and whilst I probably didn't sit back and enjoy the process of getting ready as mush as other brides it made our wedding day that much more special to us and our guests knowing that we had created what we wanted and had done alot ourselves (with the help of family of course!)
So I started with some invitation supplies on my Ebay store, then grew to my first website. Twelve months later I got a new website complete with shopping cart and now 4 years on another upgrade to the website. More features, more social media and feedback for customers.
About the time of my first shopping cart website I decided to exhibit at a wedding expo. Over the last few years this has got busier and I'm now doing a number of expos each year. I love getting out and speaking with brides about what they are looking for in the invitations.
I'm looking forward to the next year ahead as I have new ranges and big plans so watch this space or follow us on Facebook to see where it takes me!
